Jazzdrummer Felix Schlarmann’s 49th program for Dutch online radio Concertzender Nederland focusses on the music of musician extraordinaire and producer Blake Mills.

For this program Felix’ long-time bandmate, saxophone player and composer Maarten Hogenhuis, contributed a selection of his favorite Blake Mills tracks. When thinking about a special on this versatile artist, asking Maarten was the first thing to do since he is a big fan and an expert on Mills’ work.

We follow Mills, American songwriter, guitarist, producer, and composer, for more than a decade and hear music from several albums with most different musical character and influences. That is what makes this versatile musician so interesting. Listening to his early work the singer-songwriter sound with vocals and acoustic guitar is central. But along the way his producer side gets more and more to the forefront.

His final album, Notes with attachment from 2021, was a co-production with bassist Pino Palladino. The record includes a list of jazz greats contributing to this special produced work.
