Sonic Acts 2019

fri 8 feb 2019
Theme: Crosslinks

The 25th edition of Sonic Acts takes place in Amsterdam this month.

The theme this year is the Hereafter.

The Hereafter is an exploration of the events that have led to the current crisis in the world – and what we can expect to follow in the ‘hereafter’. This exploration takes place by considering the immense problems we are now facing: the inequality caused by colonisation and geopolitical maneuvering, the challenges of climate change and immigration, the constant exploitation and uncertainty of the working class and the manner in which technological progress destabilises instead of bringing emancipation – in other words: the inescapable web that has been created by international capitalism.

The Sonic Acts exhibition opens on Friday 8 February in Arti et Amicitae in Amsterdam.

The festival takes place on February 21 – 24 in Amsterdam in Paradiso, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Vlaams Cultuurhuis de Brakke Grond and Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ.

The Concertzender will be featuring Sonic Acts in a number of programmes.

Our programmes start on Wednesday 13 February with a special about the opening evening in Paradiso in which we look at the various works that will be performed on the Acousmonium, an orchestra consisting of 80 loudspeakers of different types. This orchestra is part of GRM (Groupe de recherches musicales, Institut national de l’audiovisuel – or Ina GRM) from Paris.

This is followed on Wednesday 20 February by a programme featuring the work of Ji Youn Kang (see photo). She is giving a performance in the Stedelijk Museum on Saturday 23 February.
