Sophie Janna and Margot Merah got to know each other during music sessions in the Amsterdam Irish pub Mulligans. Somebody suggested they should sing together in a jam. Their voices seemed to blend and they formed the duo The Lasses.
They accompany themselves on guitar, the bodhran (Irish hand drum) and occasionally mouth harmonica. They have a large repertoire of songs. Tales about love, death and other life issues are sung without pretentiousness, with humour and musicality. The Irish and American folk traditions have obviously influenced their song choice and their own work of The Lasses.
