Wednesday 22nd June from 20.00 tot 22.00 : Moondog 100 jaar. Louis Thomas Hardin alias Moondog. At the end of May he would have reached the blessed age of 100.
The American, who passed away in 1999, was an allrounder. He went blind when he was 16, but that didn’t stop him from being percussionist, conductor, singer, poet and instrument maker. With his characteristic Viking helmet and cloak he became New York’s most famous street musician. Later Hardin moved to Germany where his music was more appreciated . Minimalist composers such as Steve Reich and Philip Glass saw him as a sort of godfather. The Theme episode on Wednesday 22nd June looks back over Moondog’s turbulent musical career. Including a lot of classical works from albums such as ‘Moondog’, ‘Moondog in Europe’, ‘H’art Songs’ en ‘Elpmas’.
