Wednesday March 23 in Electronic Frequencies several concerts from the Tehran International Electronic Music Festival.

The “Tehran International Electronic Music Festival” (TIEMF) was founded in 2017 by Yarava Music Group just one year after the first round of the Electroacoustic Music Composition Competition “Reza Korourian Awards”, with the aim of creating a basis for technical and aesthetic subjects, as well as composing and performing electronic music through the expansion of international interactions.

Achieving this goal had been started in the first year of competition by collaboration with the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media. From the second year of the competition and with the foundation of the festival, the “Aristotle University of Thessaloniki” and “Luigi Cherubini Conservatory” joined the festival. From the second year of the festival, “University of Tehran” also joined and these collaborations continue till today.

Over the past four years, the festival has performed over 250 pieces of electronic music (fixed media and live electronics), video art, performance and installation from around the world. It has also held numerous scientific activities such as workshops, master classes, seminars, lectures, review sessions, etc. The 5th Tehran International Electronic Music Festival is organized this year by the Yarava Music Group in collaboration with the University of Tehran, the Art University of Tehran, the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media, the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the Luigi Cherubini Conservatory and the State University of Music and the Performing Arts Stuttgart.

About the Yarava Music Group:
“Yarava Music Group” was founded in 2001 by Mehdi Jalali, Ebrahim Allahyari and Hamed Zand Karimkhani with the purpose of introducing an alternative style of traditional music and promoting the instrumental music or a non-vocal-based genre of music. Since 2003 and after the formation of “Yarava Modern Orchestra” at Alireza Mashayekhi’s suggestion, this group has started its artistic activities with the objectives of performing.

Over the past few years, some of the most important activities of the group have been
holding the Electroacoustic Music Composition Competition “Reza Korourian Awards”, the Contemporary Music Festival “Sound.Tehran. Music”, “Tehran International Electronic Music Festival” and the musical projects “Sound Fabric”, “Tehran – Berlin Travelers”, “Tehran Contemporary Music Days”. These kinds of activities have led to a collaboration and alliance between Yarava Music Group, Tehran University, Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media, Department of Music Studies, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Digital Media Center, Multimedia Production Lab of Luigi Cherubini Conservatory, Freiburg University of Music, New York University and the State University of Music and the Performing Arts Stuttgart.

Since 2003 up to now, this group has held more than 90 educative-informative sessions in addition to its routine activities; these sessions were held under the title of “Khalvat-e-Mosighi” (Music Privacy), “IC” (Informal Concert), “Opera Night”, “Sundays of Music”, “Music Privacy 37.5 Degrees”, etc.
By running a series of programs called “Persian Night” since 2008, Yarava has concentrated on performing the pieces of Iranian contemporary composers; 60 pieces were performed just in these programs.
Yarava has performed more than 180 music pieces of different genres over the years of its activity; besides, the compositions of more than 40 Iranian contemporary composers had their world premiere at Yarava Music Group, some of which are published and released.

Several concerts of this festival will be broadcasted on the program Electronic Frequencies. Starting on the 23th of March and also in April and May. All three productions are made by Roland Kuit.

Many thanks to the Yarava Music Group, the Department of Music of Tehran University and the Art University of Tehran for organizing and virtual hosting this event.
