Tivoli Vredenburg: Orange Jazz Days

fri 3 oct 2025

In the weekend from Friday October 3rd to Sunday October 5th, Tivoli Vredenburg will host the Dutch jazz festival Orange Jazz Days. Dutch jazz will showcase its innovative and rich tradition during this brand-new festival. There are exclusive premieres and special collaborations that showcase the most adventurous side of Dutch jazz.

On Friday, there are big bands and other large ensembles, such as the National Youth Jazz Orchestra with guitarist and composer Reinier Baas, the Nu-Art Orchestra directed by Marike van Dijk and the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw with a tribute to Misha Mengelberg. The womxn/queer collective PARRA.DICE brings jazz, funk, Latin and more. Finally, there are also smaller ensembles, such as the duo Hans Dulfer and Han Bennink and Loek van den Berg.

On Saturday, there’s almost exclusively new music, from established names and emerging talent from the Netherlands, from Yuri Honing to Eric Vloeimans. There is also a tribute to Ruud Bos of the Paradox Jazz Orchestra and performances by Kika Spranger’s Large Ensemble and the Jeroen van Vliet Septet. There’s even something even newer: Utrecht hip-hop from .multibeat and the electro-jazz of WAAN.

On Sunday, Benjamin Herman returns to Orange Jazz Days with a new edition of his European Alto Festival, a tribute to the alto saxophone and the rich Dutch jazz tradition with this instrument, featuring only Dutch compositions. Kasper Rietkerk’s KRSIX (nominated for the Newcomer Edison Award) will open Benjamin Herman’s European Alto Festival with his debut album.
