17th century music in Concertzender live

fri 23 feb 2018
Theme: Early Music

In Concertzender Live on Thursday 22nd February at 20.00 we’re broadcasting two recordings from the Early Music Festival 2017. We’re playing 17th century music from Heinrich Schütz by Gli Angeli Genève and from William Lawes by the Academy of Ancient Music.

Schütz’ Geistliche Chor-Musik – Gli Angeli Genève
Heinrich Schütz was a key figure between the German renaissance and Bach’s baroque. From his wide repertoire baritone Stephan MacLeod chose a motet collection which demonstrates the best of Schütz: ‘Geistliche Chor-Musik’, an ode to the French-Flemish polyphony, rich with elements from the early baroque Italy.

William Lawes, de Iconoclast – Academy of Ancient Music
William Lawes was blessed with amazing versatility. This selection of anthems and deliciously headstrong Fantasy Suites is convincing evidence.
Performance is by the British baroque orchestra Academy of Ancient Music led by harpischordist Richard Egarr.
