In 1930 was bassaxofonist Adrian Rollini terug in New York, na een verblijf van twee jaar in Europa. De economie ging naar een dieptepunt, maar er was nog veel vraag naar muziek en Rollini maakte weer tientallen opnamen met diverse studiocombinaties. In deze tijd begon hij te werken op een nieuw instrument waar hij furore op zou maken, de vibrafoon (deel 4 van 6).
