Bach ad Infinitum – Recorder week

mon 13 apr 2015
Theme: Early Music

From 6th until 10th April Bach ad Infinitum (every workday from 13.00 tot 14.00 ) will be devoted to the recorder, with on Wednesday 8th April  a solo portrait of recorder player Erik Bosgraaf.

The recorder, de 'Flauto dolce' (gentle flute), the instrument of the poor, was seen in Johann Sebastian Bach's time as a symbol of suffering, death and decline.
Everyone is familiar with that brief moment in the St Matthew Passion in which Jesus's fear of death is portrayed in music, when the recorder accompanies the moving aria "O Schmerz, hier zittert das gequaelte Herz" .

The 2 recorders and viola da gambas also play an important role in the Actus Tragicus .

This week Bach ad Infinitum will be featuring instrumental works but above all cantatas in which one or more recorders play a role, wtih on Wednesday 8th and 15th April a solo potrait of recorder player Erik Bosgraaf.

Friday 10th and 17th April the week will be concluded with the debut cd of a new star, the French harpischordist Jean Rondeau.
