Mara Galassi and the Barberini-harp

Mara Galassi

During the Early Music Festival 2019 in Utrecht, harpist Mara Galassi played the programme ‘Dentice, Trabaci, Mayone & De Macque: The harp in Naples’.
The Milanese Mara Galassi is one of the most important baroque harpists in the world and has often worked with Hespèrion XXI, Concerto Italiano and Cantus Cölln.

Mara Galassi plays music from 17th century Naples, from famous harpists and lutenists such as Ascano Mayone, Louis Maymon and Adriana Basile. This music is in the new musical style (‘nuove musiche’) that was in vogue in Naples in the 17th century, with works by Dentice, Trabaci, Mayone and De Macque.
Galassi plays a copy of the ‘Barberini harp’ from 1615.
