thu 28 apr 2016
Theme: Early Music

On Thursday 28th April in Concertzender Live (20.00 – 22.00 ) you can hear early English music played by Cappella Amsterdam and Ghielmi & Pianca during the Early Music Festival 2015.

Out of Handel’s Shadow

In the concert ‘Out of Handel’s Shadow: Funeral music for the Duke of Marlborough’ Cappella Amsterdam conducted by Daniel Reuss plays music from the Boughton House collection.

The marriage in 1705 of John Montagu and the daughter of the First Duke of Marlborough brought 2 rich and powerful English families together.
Bononcini, Händels rival in Londen, wrote in 1722 an anthem as funeral music for the Duke of Marlborough. This anthem was accompanied by works by Henry Purcell, Maurice Greene and Georg Friedrich Händel.

Upon a Ground

Simpson: upon a Ground by the leading musician Italian gamba player Vittorio Ghielmi and lutenist Luca Pianca is a concert about English gamba art.
This concert introduces one of the most popular English improvisation forms: the ground. Christopher Simpson wrote some extremely virtuoso grounds during the 17th century for two of the most popular instruments, the lute and the viola da gamba.

Gamba player Vittorio Ghielmi and lutenist Luca Pianca accompany this with grounds and other virtuoso works from contemporary English colleagues of Simpson’s.
