Theme: Early Music

In Concertzender Live on Thursday 8 February 20:00 CET and on Friday 16 February 15:00 CET we are broadcasting two recordings made during the Festival of Early Music in 2016 and 2017. Cappella Mariana sings music from the Codex Specialnik and the duo Leila Schayegh and Jörg Halubek play violin sonatas by J.S. Bach and Albinoni.

The ensemble Cappella Mariana comes from Prague and their performance of the music from the Codex Specialnik combines singers and soft brass instruments. The Codex Specialnik is a 15th century manuscript from the circles aroud Jan Zelinsky, a radical follower of Jan Hus. The names of the composers remains unknown, but the music is now accepted as part of the European canon.

Leila Schayegh

The Italian Tomaso Albinoni was admired by Johann Sebastian Bach because of his virtuoso violin sonatas. Bach copied and used material by Albinoni in his own lessons and compositions.

The Swiss violinist Leila Schayegh performs sonatas by both composers. Leila Schayegh is accompanied by the harpsichordist Jörg Halubek.
