It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Jan Pieter Overmars (born 1963). Jan Pieter has been part of the Concertzender and World of Jazz since 2021, where he produced his weekly programme JazznotJazz. Jan Pieter was a passionate music lover, with a deep love for jazz and a vast knowledge that he shared enthusiastically.
Due to health reasons, he was not always able to produce the programme himself. Fortunately, his son Niels helped him and not only helped with compiling the programme but also narrated the texts written by Jan Pieter, ensuring that his passion and knowledge always remained present.
Jan Pieter’s broad taste in jazz was clearly reflected in his programme JazznotJazz. He was not afraid to introduce radical contrasts, effortlessly jumping from hard bop to electro-fusion, from smooth jazz to free jazz. His programmes were adventurous and eclectic, offering listeners many gems from the history of jazz.
Anyone who listened to JazznotJazz knows that Jan Pieter was exactly the DJ that we so often miss in Hilversum. He was someone who takes you through the opaque jungle of jazz recordings and introduces you to music that was previously unknown to you. We’ll miss him terribly!
