Documento is starting a new series about Josquin Desprez on Thursday 4 February 21:00 CET. 2021 marks the 500th anniversary of the death of perhaps the most important of the Renaissance composers.
Josquin Desprez (ca. 1450 – 1521) was one of the most celebrated composers of his time. He worked at the courts of both the French king and the Pope. Theologist Maarten Luther expressed his admiration for the music of Josquin as follows: “he is the master of the notes and makes them do what he wants whereas other composers must allow the notes do what they want”.
The Documento series about Josquin Desprez consists of seven programmes. The first programme is an introduction and is followed by programmes about his motets, his masses and his chansons.
The series will be broadcast from February to August on the first Thursday of each month at 21:00 CET.
