On 6th February 1497, 520 years ago, the Walloon composer Johannes Ockeghem passed away.

Josquin des Prez was one of his pupils, and wrote the famous deploration “Nymphes des Bois” in memory of his departed master. He was inspired by Ockeghem, who himself wrote a lament for his own teacher, Gilles Binchois.

In the two part series ‘Ockeghem’s Deplorations’ we can hear both laments: both for and by Ockeghem.
