Reinbert de Leeuw celebrates his 80th birthday on Saturday 8 September. This milestone will be celebrated with an extensive tribute in the Muziekgebouw aan het IJ in Amsterdam. De Leeuw was asked what he would most like to hear during the evening and replied “Surprise me!” The programme for the evening has therefore not been published, but one thing is certain, the soprano Barbara Hannigan is taking part. Shortly, the CD ‘Vienna: Fin de Sciècle’ will be issued in which she sings songs written by Arnold Schönberg, Alma Mahler and others, accompanied by De Leeuw.
