Dit gedicht schreef de Amerikaanse zangeres Freya Lynn Hogue van Sunforest in de jaren zestig in hun enige album ‘Sound of Sunforest’. Al het leven, zo ook de mens, heeft het licht van de zon nodig om op aarde tot bloei te komen. Nu de lente weer begonnen is, ontwaakt de natuur en leeft opnieuw op. En bij de fluitende vogeltjes, de knoppen aan de bomen, de eerste bloemen uit de grond en het lengen van de dagen, past natuurlijk de sixtiepop van Sunforest en de avantpop van Jennifer Gentle en The Magic Whispers in de special van deze aflevering van Folk it!, waarin de Amerikaanse zangeres Elizabeth Mitchell ons oproept eveneens het licht in ons binnenste te laten schijnen. Speck Mountain brengt ons in de special als eerste in de zomerstemming met hun lied ‘Summer Above’. Mia Doi Todd, die je op de foto ziet, werd zich eveneens bewust van de helende werking van moeder natuur toen zij haar recente album maakte en gaf deze de titel ‘Gea’, het Griekse woord voor onze aarde.

Deze Folk it! kun je rekenen op vele zangeressen, zoals Joanne Robertson en Cécile Corbel, die binnenkort in een kasteel in ons land optreedt. Uit de jaren zestig hoor je Vashti Bunyan, die overigens nu nog steeds dromerige folk maakt. Ville Leinonen uit Finland vertegenwoordigt de mannelijke zijde en Auto Da Fe voegt Aziatische penseelstreken toe aan deze Folk it!
