Roots & Routes

Iconen zoals The Beatles, The Byrds, Simon & Garfunkel, The Beach Boys en Neil Young hebben de close harmony zang van de Everly Brothers genoemd als één van de belangrijkste inspiraties aan het begin van hun muzikale carrières. Eind jaren ’50 hadden de broers hun eerste grote hit. Hun rugzak zat natuurlijk vol met de muziek uit hun jeugd, muziek die van invloed was op hun eigen geluid. We luisteren daarom naar voorbeelden van die muziek. Verder ook muziek die juist door The Everly Brothers zelf is geïnspireerd en hun eigen muziek komt natuurlijk ook langs. De focus ligt dit uur dus op zang, en een beetje op gitaar. Tijdens de eerste grote tournee van The Rolling Stones – als voorprogramma van The Everly Brothers, Bo Diddley en Little Richard – raakte Keith Richards zeer onder de indruk van het gitaarspel van Don Everly. Hij noemt hem in zijn autobiografie (Life, 2010) zelfs één van de beste ritmegitaristen.
