Contemporary Music on Monday June 16 at 19;00 CET is about the rise of the accordion, a colourful instrument that has developed into a full-fledged soloist in contemporary classical music.
You will hear works by Sofia Goebaidoelina, Brett Dean and Tristan Keuris, among others. There is also attention for well-known accordionists, such as the Dane Mogens Ellegaard and the Dutch Miny Dekkers.
It is clear that the accordion has now become a permanent fixture in European contemporary music. The Netherlands has many prominent accordionists. For example, René Bekkers, from accordion duo TOEAC, who also runs the venue De Link, and accordionist Marieke Hopman who is director of the November Music festival. In 2025 Vincent van Amsterdam also won the Dutch Music Prize with his accordion. A broadcast to listen to with pleasure.
