sun 24 may 2015
Theme: Early Music

In The Early Garden on Sunday 24th May (16.00-17.00 CET) you can listen to 16th century motets from the 4th Leiden Choirbook performed by Egidius Kwartet & College, who are currently also touring with a series of concerts featuring the 6th and last Leiden Choirbook!

The concert series by the Egidius Quartet & College started in Leiden on 22nd May and continues until 31 May with concerts throughout the Netherlands.

Concert dates Leiden Choirbooks VI.

The six choirbooks from the Pieterskerk in Leiden were compiled in the 16th century for the church's Getijdencollege. They are Europe's largest collection of religious polyphonic music that was compiled for a single church.
The first 3 books primarily contain masses and parts of masses, but the 4th book contains motets. Many of the composers that are represented in this book are from the Franco-Flemish School and include Clemens non Papa, Thomas Crecquillon, Jean Richafort and Philippe Verdelot, but there are also local less well-known composers such as Goessen Jonckers, Johannes Flamingus and Franciscus IJsenbaert.
