De Stille Oceaan
Een klankbron met muziek van de Stille Oceaan van de Salomonseilanden tot de Marquesaseilanden. Met opnamen van Hugo Zemp, David Fanshawe, Maurice Bitter, Henri Lavondes en Lavinia ‘A Finau. Het zijn opnames die met veel moeite en tijd gemaakt zijn op de vele eilanden die in de Stille Oceaan verspreid liggen. Althans nu nog, want velen ervan dreigen te verdwijnen in het water als gevolg van klimaatverandering. Het is de zoveelste ramp die het gebied treft in de laatste 70 jaar. Na de nucleaire proeven van de Amerikanen en Fransen en het massaal leegvissen en vervuilen van de oceaan door hebzuchtige kapitalisten die ver weg wonen, stijgt nu de zeespiegel. De eerste eilanden zijn al verdwenen en velen zullen naar verwachting volgen.
Wij beginnen met de liederen en panfluiten van de Fataleka en de Baegu op het eiland Malaita in de Salomonseilanden. Het was in 1969 en 1970 een ware muzikale ontdekking. Een genre van muziek met zijn eigen systeem en regels dat volkomen onbekend was buiten de Salomonseilanden. Daarna hoort u opnamen van David Fanshawe die 10 jaar van eiland naar eiland trok en daar 2000 uur opnam, waarvan een klein deel gepubliceerd is. In het laatste deel van de uitzending hoort u opnamen van Maurice Bitter, Henri Lavondes en Lavinia ‘A Finau waaronder een aantal gitaar en ukelele liederen die vaak als Hawaii muziek getypeerd worden.
